Description: |
The GIS Unit, within the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development's (LaDOTD) Information Technology Section, provides LaDOTD staff with GIS data, applications, and technical support. This includes work to build and manage ArcGIS server websites that can be used by the public to access data and use interactive geospatial analysis tools. Some of the information that the IT GIS Unit helps make available includes proposed and active construction projects, coastal land surface elevation maps, the Louisiana Water Well Registry, animated land use change maps, and real-time river and stream gauges, among others.
LaDOTD maintains a GIS Homepage that provides links to LaDOTD, these GIS web services, as well as other links to transportation-related Internet resources. ArcGIS users can use these web services by adding them into their ArcCatalog "GIS Services" folder and access any of them directly in ArcMap and other ArcGIS applications. LaDOTD is the state agency with the statutory responsibility for topographic mapping in Louisiana. As such, it has taken on the responsibility for creating and updating a seamless, statewide geodatabase to support the GIS and mapping needs of the state. This will also be used to update the nearly 900 outdated U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) quadrangle maps across the state. |
