Description: On September 10, 2001, a GIS Oversight Committee within Wyoming DOT (WyDOT) implemented a GIS Standard. The standard established criteria and guidelines for implementing and maintaining GIS technology within the Wyoming Department of Transportation. It was the goal of WyDOT to facilitate development of efficient and cost-effective GIS implementation, maximizing system compatibility and departmental sharing and utilization of spatially-referenced data. The standard explains how a database should be set up in order to integrate it with GIS data, as well as what information fields are needed and how they are to be formatted.

Description: Wyoming DOT's (WyDOT) internet-based Road Report provides regularly updated travel information, including weather and road conditions. The tool contains a map of the state which depicts highway routes color-coded to depict road conditions such as "dry," "wet" or "slick." Another set of color codes is used to show weather conditions such as "rain," "snowfall" or "strong winds." A "zoom" feature allows viewers to hone in on a particular area to see more detailed condition report information. The application also depicts closed sections of roads and locations of Web cameras, as well as atmospheric conditions readouts from 26 roadside weather reporting stations. A telephone version of the road report can be accessed within Wyoming at 1-888-WYO-ROAD.
