Description: The Route Log System allows users to specify roadway sections and display attribute data (e.g., pavement condition, traffic volumes, speed zones). The Route Log, which is updated on an annual basis, also contains annual average daily traffic data for all counted segments of the state highway system. In addition, users can access information regarding construction and resurfacing projects that were completed in the previous year. Eventually, information such as bridge inspection photos will be linked to the system.

Description: Since 1999, the Vermont Agency of Transportation (Vtrans) Highway Mapping System (HMS), the core tool for the maintenance of road centerline data in a GIS format, has helped Vtrans manage the official record of all public roadways in the state. This task includes the processing of the Certificates of Highway Mileage and the generation of General Highway Maps, also called Town Highway Maps. Town Highway Maps are updated by input given from towns themselves. If a town submits a change to the town road system, Vtrans GIS staff inventories and measures the new roads and inspects the changes to the other roads on the system. After this fieldwork, staff uses the HMS to make the necessary changes to the official maps.
