2 Practice: Maine's Statewide Travel Demand Model
Subject Areas: Asset Management
Operations
State: Maine
Organization: Maine Department of Transportation,
Contact: Bill  Croce
Title: Bureau of Planning, Research, and Community Service
Email: bill.croce@state.me.us
Phone: (207) 287-3131
Description: The Maine Department of Transportation (Maine DOT) is in the process of developing a statewide travel demand model linked to a Geographic Information System (GIS). Development of the model required combining an initial, relatively simple statewide model with four existing models for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). GIS software, including ARC/INFO and ArcView, was instrumental for combining the existing model networks into a unified statewide model with common format and coding conventions.

4 Practice: Transportation Information for Decision Enhancement (TIDE)
Subject Areas: Asset Management
Maintenance
Operations
Planning
State: Maine
Organization: Maine Department of Transportation
Contact: Thomas Marcotte
Email: thomas.marcotte@maine.gov
Phone: 207-287-8723
Description: The Transportation Information for Decision Enhancement (TIDE) application is a data warehouse that integrates an Oracle relational database management system with GIS query and display tools provided via ESRI ArcView 3.2. TIDE incorporates some Pavement Management System data and all of the data from the Maine Department of Transportation's (MaineDOT) 20-year-old geospatial database, the Transportation Integrated Network Information System (TINIS). TINIS contained most of Maine's transportation system data.

TIDE, which extracts TINIS data weekly, allows staff the ability to quickly correlate previously disparate but related information, as well as to perform trend analyses, and graphically present data. Users of TIDE can also graphically depict the results of queries they make.

TIDE provides access to Maine DOT's legacy databases, maintains historical data for trend analysis, provides highway needs and adequacy reporting, vehicle occupancy queries, bicycle level of services queries, safety analysis, bridge analysis, local road assistance queries, and numerous others.
