Description: SmartWay is the public interface for TDOT's Intelligent Transportation System. It includes 511 and several browser-based applications that provide incident, weather, and construction information to travelers to allow them to make informed decisions to avoid congestion and safety hazards such as snow, ice, flooding, and crashes. Incidents and construction are entered by TDOT employees or Highway Patrol Dispatchers based on defined street segments. This information is then translated to a coordinate location for display on the web map. For 511, a text file is automatically generated and published to an RSS feed. This data is then consumed by our 511 vendor who then creates the appropriate voice files that describe the incident over the phone to anyone calling 511 in Tennessee. On the SmartWay maps website, the same information conveyed by 511 is displayed on an interactive map display that utilizes Google Maps as its background. In addition to 511 incidents and construction, the online map also provides Google's congestion data, TDOT traffic cameras and dynamic message signs. A streamlined listing of 511 data is provided as a mobile app for Smart phones that does not require map navigation by a driver. This information is also provided on Twitter. All information displayed on the web map is available free of charge as RSS and GeoRSS files. The link to the mobile application is: https://smartway.tn.gov/.
