GIS and CAD Integration
Seeking Examples for Case Study and Peer Exchange
FHWA is researching transportation agencies’ work in the areas of GIS and computer-aided-design (CAD) interoperability and integration. FHWA is interested in identifying transportation agencies that have engaged or plan to engage in these efforts, as well to explore any lessons learned, success factors, or challenges encountered. To more broadly share and discuss examples of GIS/CAD interoperability and integration, FHWA plans to organize a peer exchange for interested agencies and develop a case study report highlighting agencies’ experiences. If you are interested in sharing examples of your agency’s work, and/or would like to participate in the peer exchange and case study report, please contact Alisa Fine of the US Department of Transportation Volpe Center (Alisa.Fine@dot.gov, 617-494-2310) by Wednesday, October 24, 2012.

Upcoming GIS in Transportation Webcast
Please join the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for its 16th installment in a quarterly series of webcasts highlighting applications of geospatial technologies in transportation. The webcast will take place on Thursday, November 1 from 2:30-3:30 PM ET. There is no need to pre-register and the webcast is free of charge. Cecilio Martinez, Clayton Elkins, and Raymond Maldonado of the San Antonio-Bexar County MPO will discuss their iMap application, which was developed to consolidate the MPO’s transportation-related data into a single mapping application to help address data silos. The application, which began as a simple mechanism to include information on funded transportation projects, has since grown into a large repository of visually displayed data that can be tailored to users’ needs. Citizens and agency staff can now use iMap to answer complex transportation questions. To access the webcast, please see the information listed below: Audio: 1-877-336-1274 (call-in); 7838594# (passcode) Webroom link: http://fhwa.adobeconnect.com/gistransportation The intended audiences for this webcast series are planners and GIS practitioners from State Departments of Transportation, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, FHWA Division Offices, and State and Federal resource agencies. If you would like highlight one of your agency's geospatial applications in an upcoming webcast, please contact Paige Colton (paige.colton@dot.gov or 617-494-2361). Information on previous webcasts can be found here on FHWA’s GIS in Transportation website.
